Every evening, like so many other people, I get coffee ready for the next day. Programmable. I have two coffee cups. One is teal green, the other is lavender. The teal one is for the work week.
When I open the cabinet and see both cups, a decision has to be made. Sometimes I just grab what’s in front of me. It feels odd if I grab the wrong one and use it anyway. I can’t remember when I decided that the colors held some special meaning. Every morning, I really look in the cabinet and have this conversation with myself. Don’t break the cup rule.
It’s a cup, for God’s sake! Just pour the coffee and wake up!
That teal cup. It’s a punishment cup. A reminder that I had my chances. I have friends who were smart with theirs. Every morning is a slow morning for them.
It’s Friday tomorrow. In the morning, that teal cup will be a lot nicer to me.
