The Hat Will Teach Me

I like hats. Playing golf, hats are a necessity. Often, I see a gentleman wearing many different kinds of fedoras. He looks like he was made to wear hats. Why do I feel self-conscious about wearing anything other than a baseball hat? At what point will I feel grown up enough not to care?

I imagine that men like Steve McQueen and Robert Redford were. Maybe they were just acting?

It’s just a hat. I want to be a cool old man. I should get a fedora, strut around. The hat will teach me.

My clients always assume that I’ll notice the blemish or whatever imperfection they are sure is obvious to everyone. I don’t see. I really don’t care.

A straw fedora for summer, a felt one for winter.
