I’ve always lived here. I was asked if I’d ever thought about moving somewhere cooler. I had to clarify: culture or climate?

Blue-collar families stay put. Get a job, get married, buy a house, have kids. Exactly what I did.

Regret that plan? To a certain degree, yes. Having the awareness to imagine a different future when I was young? Nope. It never occurred to me that there were options. Reading that makes me sound kind of dumb.

When I was nineteen or twenty, financing a Marshall amp seemed like a good idea. At the last second, I realized, “Man, you can’t afford this, and you get scared as shit playing in front of people.”

So here I am.

Did I miss out? Am I content? If I could do it over again, would I?

Count Basie and Oscar Peterson are in my man cave, telling me that where I’ve landed ain’t bad.

The weekend is here.

I think I’ll go to the range.
